“Going by the early estimated figures for the second day, the film could have already entered the Rs.100 crore club worldwide,” he said. On the first day, the film collected Rs.50 crore in India, with an additional Rs.16 crore coming from overseas. “The record was previously held by Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Robot’ with Rs.2.2 crore and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroop’ with Rs.1.9 crore. Going at this rate, the Hindi version of ‘Baahubali’ is looking at Rs.15 crore nett in its opening weekend,” Trinath said. “Baahubali” is also the biggest earning south Indian film on the opening day. In its opening weekend in the US, the film is expected to touch $5 million.

“Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ had collected $3.1 million in its first weekend in US. ‘Baahubali’ has already crossed $2 million from Thursday and Friday,” Trinath added. And since it released in multiple languages, it could cater to large number of audiences. Had the film only released in Telugu, it would’ve been impossible to recover the high cost,” Trinath said. The film, which stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles, is about two brothers fighting over an ancient kingdom.

It has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Playing simple character ‘challenging’ for Salman

Superstar Salman Khan, who has essayed action-packed roles in films like “Kick”, “Dabangg” and “Wanted”, says he found it hard to break his macho image in “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”.
“It was a difficult thing for me right now to play after the ‘Dabangg’, ‘Wanted’ and other films. It was challenging to come back to play a simple character,” Salman said here.

The 49-year-old actor, however, said that “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” does have action to some extent.
“There is action and everything (in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’) but it is simple and all heart. We’ve shown a typical Hindustani (Indian) character where people get a feeling, ‘What a nice guy’, ‘bechara’ (innocent).” “All the action films we do, they need to be backed with emotions. Otherwise, action is pointless,” he added.

Released on July 17, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, which is co-produced by Salman Khan Films (SKF) with Rockline Venkatesh, is about the bond shared by a Pakistani mute girl, essayed by young and beautiful child artist Harshaali Malhotra, and an Indian man. The film has entered the Rs.100 crore club in its opening weekend itself.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan urged India’s top court Sunday

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan urged India’s top court Sunday to spare the life of a convicted bomb plotter due to be hanged this week, declaring him innocent and sparking a political furore.
The Supreme Court is expected on Monday to hear a last-ditch appeal from Yakub Memon, convicted of being a key plotter of a series of bomb blasts that killed hundreds in Mumbai two decades ago—the deadliest such attacks in India’s history.

The court had last week rejected what was believed at the time to be a final appeal from Memon, paving the way for his execution on Thursday after more than two decades in jail.
But his lawyers lodged the last-minute appeal, saying his execution date of July 30 had been set unlawfully back in April, before all legal avenues to appeal were exhausted.
Khan, a hugely popular actor who was himself convicted in May of a deadly hit-and-run accident, described Memon, an accountant by profession, as innocent, sparking protests outside his house.

“One innocent man killed is killing the humanity,” Khan said on Twitter where he has 13.1 million followers.“Get Tiger, hang him. Parade him not his brother,” Khan said referring to Memon’s brother Tiger, whom police say masterminded the attacks and who is still on the run.
The actor later retracted the comments after uproar from the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the opposition and a prosecutor involved in the case.

“The Supreme Court gave its verdict on hard core evidence and none of us are in position to undermine the verdict,” said a BJP spokeswoman, Shaina NC. The attacks are a religiously contentious issue in India because they are believed to have been staged by Mumbai’s Muslim-dominated underworld in retaliation for anti-Muslim violence that killed more than 1,000 people.
The Bombay Stock Exchange, the offices of Air India and a luxury hotel were among the targets of the March 1993 blasts, which killed 257 people in India’s commercial capital.

Eleven people have been convicted over the attacks, but alleged masterminds Tiger and Mumbai gang boss Dawood Ibrahim have not been caught. Dozens of angry protesters, some waving BJP flags, converged outside the star’s house in Mumbai, demanding he apologise to the victims’ families. The actor said on Twitter he was retracting the comments because they have the potential to “create misunderstanding”, adding “I respect all faiths”.

The furore came as a petition signed mainly by lawyers and politicians was given to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee urging clemency, partly on the basis that Yakub Memon has been languishing in jail for more than 20 years, the Press Trust of India news agency said. A former Supreme Court judge, Harjit Singh Bedi, also said the court should take notice of reports Memon had cooperated with investigators and returned voluntarily from Pakistan where he fled after the blasts.

In a letter in the Sunday Express newspaper, Bedi said the court should examine whether these count as mitigating circumstances and refer the case back to the trial court for consideration.

Dilwale first look: SRK, Kajol remind us of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai's Rahul and Anjali

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are perhaps one of the most iconic lead pairs of Hindi cinema of this generation. And even though the Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai  generation has grown up since, the fact that DDLJ is still playing in Mumbai's Maratha Mandir shows how obsessed we are with the onscreen couple. Now, 20 years after DDLJ and 22 years after their first film together and many films after that, SRK-Kajol are coming back again for Rohit Shetty's Dilwale and we've been hearing great things about the film. Currently, the cast (which includes Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon) are shooting song sequences in Bulgaria.
Shah Rukh Khan has been active on Twitter and has been sharing regular updates of the film for his fans. He recently shared the first look of the film, along with the confirmed release date, which is December 18 2015.
The poster gives you instant nostalgia. There's SRK doing what else - but smiling and showing off his dimples. And there's Kajol who seems to be in a very deep conversation with him. Both actors look their age but still as fresh as they did back in the 90s.
Shah Rukh is in cargo pants and a white shirt, while Kajol is in a flowing printed skirt and fitted denim top: stylish and contemporary. They seem to walking through the streets of a European city.

However, in an industry when SRK has been playing the male lead opposite much younger women like Deepika and Katrina, resulting in forced, cosmetic onscreen chemistry, his pairing with Kajol is refreshing and real.
It also makes a strong case for intelligent casting even in romcoms. Here's hoping Shah Rukh and Kajol will lead the way.

" I'm Still Learning" -Alia Bhatt

Actress Alia Bhatt said that as a viewer she likes reality shows, but feels she is too young to judge them as of now.

"I don't think judging is something I can do now as I am too young, I am still learning it. I can't judge but creatively I will be part of singing and music stuff (shows)," Alia told PTI.

"Whenever the time is right I would do it. When I am not doing films and have time, then maybe I can do reality shows. But I also think I need to explore the singing space to be on a show and judge someone," she said.
Alia Bhatt

Alia along with filmmaker Karan Johar will now be seen as a co-curator of Viacom18's English entertainment channel Colors Infinity.

When asked if she would be doing a show for the channel in near future, Alia said, "Not right now, but never say never, let's see. For me reality television is something I get hooked on to, like Bigg Boss. I get attracted to it. So doing something like that will be a great idea on Colors Infinity."

Alia said that people are wise enough to choose what they like to see and there are particular slots for bold shows.

"I think there is a particular time slot for that. We all are wise enough to make our choices. There are some shows that will be very interesting for the children to see, like the superhero show and other shows," she said.

Alia and Karan have curated shows for the channel that span across genres like drama, superheroes, comedy, fantasy, crime and thrillers.

"Not often in life you get to be on the creative panel of such a large medium like television. So I believe me being very young is a demerit as people say she is so young what does she know," the actress said.

"After a long time a youth representative has helped as being the co-curator and bringing the insights of what youth want. I am the kind of representative of what the youngsters want to watch," she said.
Alia feels television is a huge medium, but due to her busy schedule she doesn't get time to watch the shows.

"I travel most of the time and so I don't get time to catch up on TV. I feel through Color Infinity you get to watch not one but three back-to-back episodes," she said.

"All the content that you missed you get to see. There are re-runs. So it is quite feasible for those who are travelling. Also there are lots of different types of shows," she said.

VIDEO: Shahrukh, Salman and Aamir Come Together On Aap Ki Adalat

The stars have finally aligned: Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan came together for a special episode of Aap Ki Adalat to celebrate 21 years since the show made its debut.
The three Bollywood supremos – who are yet to star in a film together – got along famously, joked around with the host Rajat Sharma – SRK and Salman even going as far as to kiss him soundly on both cheeks – and even synched steps to Sallu’s towel dance.

There was absolutely no sign of their much-talked about rivalry (such an important topic of discussion in Indian media!).
The episode, which was filmed in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan on a stage hung with a banner proclaiming “Khan Ki Adalat”, was obviously important enough to be attended by the Indian president Pranab Mukherjee and prime minister Narendra Modi. Other guests included Bollywood’s glitterati, among them Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Ajay Devgn, Shilpa Shetty, Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher, and the cricketer Gautam Gambhir.

9 Reasons Why Deepika Padukone Is Absolutely Flawless

doesn’t believe in fighting fire with fire.
When being asked what she thought about the catty comments that colleague Sonam Kapoor had passed on her on a popular chat show, Deepika politely demurred from answering.
Deepika Padukone

She isn’t afraid to bring out the claws though.
She may be nice, but she won’t let you walk all over her either. As proved when she ganged up on her ex-boyfriend in an earlier edition of Koffee With Karan, where she brazenly stated that he should consider endorsing condoms.
Deepika Padukone

She knows how to sort out her personal from the professional
It was with a cheery face however that she reunited with ex Ranbir Kapoor on the sets of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and spun some box office magic. Hint hint: Kareena, Shahid; are you guys reading this?
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

And all said and done, she’s willing to let bygones be bygones.
In spite of the rumored clashes with Ramesh Taurani, Deepika managed to find some neutral ground and threw herself into the shooting and promotion efforts required for Race 2. An actress smart enough to check in her baggage at the door; you sure don’t get many of them in B’wood.
Race 2

Because she’s more than just a pretty face.
Deepika is a dab hand at badminton, courtesy the rigorous training she underwent her entire childhood. She may look like a dainty porcelain doll, but the girl absolutely refuses to act like one.
Deepika Padukone

Because she’s made a name for herself abroad as well
Without even jumping at the first bite-sized role offered to her from Hollywood. The RamLeela star wowed Hollywood biggie John Travolta with her performance, who was left raving about how amazing she was at a recent award function.
Deepika Padukone

Because she gels well with industry veterans and newbies alike
Give her SRK, give her Ranveer Singh, give her Rajinikanth– Deepika flawlessly manages to complement ‘em all, age gap be damned.
Deepika Padukone

Because they’ve yet to create a style that Deepika can’t rock
Thought she could totally rock a bikini after Cocktail? We thought so, until we saw her in full desi splendor in Chennai Express and later RamLeela.
Deepika and Shah Rukh

Just because she has it, doesn’t mean she needs to flaunt it.
Four 100 crore movies in one year is enough to make anyone’s head turn, but the diva remains grounded. As grounded as her six inch heels allow her to, anyway.

Shah Rukh Khan's New Year Gift To His Fans

If you happen to be a fan of the indomitable Khan, we’re betting that New Year was an extremely happy event for you indeed!
After several stolen glimpses at SRK’s tiny little bundle of cuteness over the course of 2014, fans rung in the New Year with a proper snapshot of Khan Jr. The credit, this time round, lay with former chairperson of the Indian Premier League, Rajeev Shukla who took to Twitter to flaunt his picture with the two Khans to the world.
AbRam

And well, if up until now, you thought that AbRam’s resemblance to SRK was beyond just a fleeting similarity, the same haircut that father & son are sharing in this image will cement those doubts!

Katrina Kaif is Not Pretentious: Anushka

Actress Anushka Sharma, who has worked with various actresses in the past, says Katrina Kaif is her favourite co-star and she doesn't believe in the concept of cat-fights in Bollywood. The actresses featured together in late filmmaker Yash Chopra's last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
"As actresses, we need to kill those cat-fight things. I called Kangana (Ranaut) when I watched Queen; I called Deepika (Padukone) after Cocktail. I was like more than excited about it," she said.
"Katrina is my favorite co-star because I had such a good relationship with her. She is a real person and not pretentious. I had a great time working with her. I know she feels happy for me," she said.
Anushka, who is currently enjoying the success of PK, says she is very satisfied with her career graph as an actress and says she doesn't like falling into brackets and categories.
When asked if she is happy with whatever she has achieved so far, Anushka said, "I won't lead my life little bit if I was not happy. I know what I want to do and I don't like falling into brackets and categories."
"I didn't want to do too many films. Whatever I have done, I have done best. People give advices but I do what I feel is right. I am very satisfied right now. I wanted to work in good films and good directors and I think my career graph is going well," she added.

Angelina Jolie’s latest incarnation: filmmaker

jole
Photo Credit : the bangladesh today
In a life that has been notable for its many metamorphoses — screen starlet, Goth vixen, United Nations ambassador, mother of six, breast cancer awareness advocate — Angelina Jolie’s latest incarnation is as filmmaker.
Rarely has an actor, particularly of Jolie’s stature, so fully given over to the other side of the camera. On Thursday, she’ll release her second directorial effort, the inspirational World War II survival tale “Unbroken,” which follows her Bosnian War drama “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” She has already shot her next movie (an intimate marriage drama in which she also co-stars with her husband, Brad Pitt), and made plans for her fourth film, “Africa,” about elephant poaching. Meanwhile, she’s virtually disappeared from the screen, starring in only one live-action film (“Maleficent”) in the last four years.
The transformation is complete, even if the new title gives her some hesitation.
“I’m shy to call myself a director still. When someone says, ‘What do you do for a living?’ I don’t know if I’ve earned that,” Jolie said in a pair of recent interviews, one in a Manhattan hotel, the other by phone. “I do love directing. I much prefer it to acting.”
It’s admittedly unlikely that Jolie is beset by queries about her occupation (“And this Mr. Pitt, is he in show business as well?”). But if there were any doubt, the scope of “Unbroken” — a classical epic that spans war and sea, a prestige picture with major below-the-line talent, a Christmas Day release amid awards season — certainly makes clear Jolie’s ambition.
“If you would have said to me a few years ago, ‘What kind of film are you looking for?’ I would have never said a film with shark attacks and bombing raids and the Olympics,” says Jolie. “I would have picked something very intimate and character driven. But I fell in love with this story.”
The story is of Louis Zamperini, who before enlisting in the Air Force to fight in World War II was a track star who ran in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. During the war, his B-24 bomber crashed in the Pacific. He and two crewmates survived on a raft at sea for 47 days, only to be captured by the Japanese and put into a brutal prisoner-of-war camp.
Zamperini’s incredible life was chronicled in a 2010 best-seller by Laura Hillenbrand, though his tale had been kicking around in Hollywood since 1956, when Universal Pictures bought the rights to Zamperini’s memoir with plans for Tony Curtis to star in the film.
“If it was a hot property, I wouldn’t have had a chance, to be honest,” says Jolie, who had to convince Universal that she could handle a much larger project than the independent “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” But she was deeply moved by the script (later to be rewritten by the Coen brothers) and Hillenbrand’s book.
“It wasn’t that I believed I was the most skilled director,” she says. “It was that I just really, really cared.”
Colleagues of Jolie’s bear that out, calling the film a deeply personal one for the 39-year-old.
“Obviously, she doesn’t know as much about the technical aspects of filmmaking as some people like Joel and Ethan (Coen) do, but she learns very quickly and she’s so passionate about it all,” says cinematography Roger Deakins, the Coens’ usual director of photography, who’s also slated to shoot “Africa.”
“We spent a lot of time in prep and a lot of time considering what we wanted from a sequence,” says Deakins, who said a touchstone for Jolie was Sidney Lumet’s “The Hill.” ”But on the day, on the set, it was a very instinctive way of working, which I found quite stimulating.”
The young British actor Jack O’Connell, who plays Zamperini, wasn’t the studio’s preferred choice, but Jolie fought for him.
“Undoubtedly, in terms of the movie industry’s perspective on it, there were certain boxes that hadn’t been ticked,” says O’Connell. “But I think that’s a credit to Angelina. She just wanted the best actors for the roles and wanted to make the best movie possible, as opposed to entertaining business agendas.”
“Unbroken” has put Jolie into the awards season mix, though the film was conspicuously absent from the Golden Globes nominations. But the most important response from “Unbroken” — which Jolie calls “the hardest thing I’ve ever done creatively” — was Zamperini.
Before he died in July at age 97, he and Jolie — who lived just around the corner from each other in Los Angeles — became close friends. Jolie screened the film for Zamperini on his deathbed, and she vividly recalls “those beautiful blue eyes” seeing his life’s story, revisiting memories and family Zamperini knew, she says, he’d soon be reunited with.
“I didn’t anticipate when I signed on to do it what an impact this man would have on my life and how much this story and the messages would hit home with me and my family and change me,” says Jolie. “He did change me. He had a huge impact on me. I didn’t grow up with a dad in the house and my grandparents passed away when I was young. I didn’t realize how much I needed that older, wiser compassionate friend to help give me that guidance and support.”
